Strawberry Nutella Tarts

With a magical spread like Nutella, it’s always a fun venture to find new vessels to consume the Italian chocolate hazelnut treat.

Perfect on toast in the morning, Nutella has crept it’s way into many desserts such as milkshakes & dessert crepes.  Another French marriage of the treat is with the financier tea cake.  Fairlysimple to make, quick baking cake, and prepared in a tart mold, this financier gets a face lift once topped with melted Nutella & fresh strawberries.

Recipe Overview

Preheat the oven to 400* degrees

First step is to caramelize the butter. Caramelized butter has so many amazing purposes (transforms a plain vanilla cake into a caramel cake).
Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.

You will notice that the butter will foam a bit. Be sure to swirl. Once the butter has browned remove from heat.

Pour the clarified butter in a heat safe bowl and set aside. Don’t get in any of the burned milk solids. *you can also strain in a cheese cloth.*

In a mixing bowl whisk together the almond flour, flour, powdered sugar, and salt.

Make a well in the middle.

Pour in the egg whites, vanilla extract, and 1/3 c browned butter. *be sure the butter is cooled completely or else you’ll have scrambled eggs. Yuck!*

Whisk it together.

Prepare the tart molds by using the remaining browned butter, or a non stick baking spray.

Financiers should be springy and golden on the edges when done.

Spread on melted Nutella.

Neatly arrange fresh sliced strawberries.

This is perfect with a cuppa tea, cappuccino, or even with some gelato.
